Minerals

It’s elemental: minerals are remarkable!

Minerals are the building blocks in the Earth’s crust. They offer beautiful forms, diverse functions, and innumerable color variations. Enhance your home, office, or outfit with a breathtaking mineral.

What exactly are minerals?

They are “naturally occurring inorganic elements or compounds that have an orderly internal structure and characteristic chemical composition, crystal form, and physical properties.” Minerals may be single elements or compounds. They generally form crystals. If the crystalline structures are microscopic, it’s called chert.

Quartz is the second most-common mineral on Earth.

Generally clear, its color may vary based on trace elements or impurities. For example, Smoky Quartz is translucent gray. Milky Quartz is cloudy white. Rose Quartz has a translucent pink or reddish color. Ferric-iron traces create the stunning purples in Amethyst, the most popular quartz subset. Amethyst is also February’s birthstone.

Quartz chert is also diverse.

Agate, is a quartz chert that consists of diverse bands of color; whereas, Flint is dark gray to black, Jasper is red to reddish-brown, and Onyx is a black and white mix.
