Within the Zuni community, these carvings serve ceremonial purposes for their creators and depict animals and icons integral to their culture. When given care and respect, the spirits power will benefit the owner of the fetish. Many carvings have arrowheads or pieces of stone attached. These are thought to increase the power of the fetish.
